Establishing Ireland’s First Obesity Service for Children and Adolescents (2004-2012)

In 2004 an interprofessional group of health professionals from Temple Street University Hospital commenced design and development of Ireland’s first multidisciplinary service for the assessment and treatment of obesity in children and adolescents. The initial clinic was established as the Streetwise Programme and was delivered out-of-hours on one evening per week. It was grounded in social-cognitive theory, theory of planned behaviour and included professionals from paediatric nursing, physiotherapy, dietetics, social work, and medicine.

Aim
